Business travel for medical practice leaders isn’t just a line item. It’s time away from operations, meetings that can’t be missed, and schedules that don’t politely pause for weather, cancellations, or overbooked hotels.

Picture this: Your CFO is heading to a regional payer meeting the night before a critical contract review. The clinic day ran long, the “quick” flight connection turns into a delay, and the next thing you know it’s 8:47 p.m. in a crowded terminal with two problems: get rebooked fast, and don’t lose the hotel rate your team finally found after comparing five sites.

Instead of opening three apps and starting a new round of hold music, the CFO jumps into MGMA Travel and pings a live agent. Within minutes, there’s a new flight, the hotel is confirmed, and the rental car is still lined up — with loyalty numbers and seat preferences already remembered. The next morning, the CFO walks into the meeting rested, on time, and with receipts and itinerary details already in one place for clean expense reporting later.

That kind of “nothing went wrong” travel outcome is the unsung operational win every practice leader appreciates. MGMA Travel is built to deliver exactly that.

    MGMA Stat poll - December 16, 2025

Our Dec. 16, 2025, MGMA Stat poll finds that many medical groups could find new savings or other benefits. The majority (73%) of practice leaders say their organizations primarily book directly with airlines and hotels when they book travel for their business, followed by corporate travel tools (10%), travel sites (8%), outside agencies (1%), and a mix of these options (8%). The poll had 239 applicable responses.

    About MGMA Travel

MGMA Travel, offered to members through HealthTrust Travel, is positioned as an “open travel marketplace,” meaning you can book business and personal travel directly with preferred brands while still earning points and miles. That matters for those of you who want to keep loyalty benefits without sacrificing the ability to compare options quickly.

The savings case is straightforward: MGMA Travel has exclusive supplier partnerships and patented tech to aggregate public, private, and “hidden” fares to surface strong pricing. MGMA members can reduce travel spend up to 20% by buying directly.

But the platform’s real advantage for busy practice administrators is consolidation. You can search multiple airlines from one interface, and book air, hotel, and rental car together, in one workflow. You can also add traveler profiles and use built-in tools to track travel expenses, which is especially helpful when you're coordinating travel for more than one leader or sending multiple attendees to the same event.

And when your journey gets disrupted, MGMA Travel highlights something healthcare leaders consistently value: live, U.S.-based agent support available 24/7 via chat, email, or phone — plus no booking or hidden fees.

Finally, for organizations thinking beyond price alone, the upcoming MGMA Travel webinar promises a look at real-time benchmarking, automated compliance tools, and duty-of-care features designed to improve outcomes and reduce unnecessary costs and liability.

Unless you already have a painless way to reserve all your flights and nights, MGMA Travel is worth a closer look — because the best business travel experience is the one that quietly does its job while you do yours.
